Take A Step Back

Choosing to make changes and failing into success.

You Are Not A Failure

As I’m trying to keep going with my goals and plans this year, sometimes I find that I what the original plan was doesn’t line up with how I’m actually able to make things happen.  Plans are really easy to make but it’s hard to know if they will actually work until you put some hours, days, and maybe even weeks or months behind putting the plans into practice.

The past couple of weeks I’ve been trying to implement the plans and goals I had and I’m starting to find the weaknesses in my original ideas.  Before I have had the issue of saying to myself “well maybe I just need to give it more time” or “I’m just not being disciplined enough” and those ideas CAN be true, but I also need to be open to recognizing when something just isn’t working it needs to go back to the drawing board.

Let me be clear. What I’m NOT saying is to quit. What I AM saying is to go back to the drawing board.  Maybe you were a little excited and over shot your expectations and it’s gonna take longer or more effort than you initially thought, or maybe life started happening again and you realized you didn’t have quite as much time to work on your goal as you thought or you need to cut more out of your life than you thought.

What I want to tell you is this:

It’s okay to have been wrong.

It’s okay to take a step back.

It’s okay to change your mind.

It’s okay to change your GOALS.

But what I don’t want you to do is keep pushing through something that doesn’t make sense for you, or something that isn’t feasible long term for you.  I would rather you take a step back, reassess your goals and plans, and set yourself up for success over a long term rather than just trying to “stick it out” cause it’s what you planned on as a “new years goal”.

Give yourself grace.

Give yourself space to fail.

And then pick yourself up, make tweaks, and try again!

As music makers, we put a lot on ourselves to be creative all the time and be the best we can be all the time.  Change and failure can feel like it reflects on our self-worth, but it’s not. We are human, we fall down, we get up, we try again!

Failing doesn’t make you a Failure.
Quitting Does.

Not a very long one this week but I know that I needed to hear this, and I’m sure that others need this permission to make changes or change your mind completely.

I would love to hear how your goals are going so far in 2024, so if that’s something you’d like to talk through or want accountability on PLEASE feel free to reply to this email or DM me on Instagram (@musicbydru) and let’s talk about it!

Keep on Creating
